Everything - BBQ Interview Name of your website?Everything - BBQ Your name? Adam Holiday Your Location (city, etc) Marbella Please give us a short summary of your website? All to do with barbecuing from lighting a charcoal grill to grilling tips. Great BBQ recipes for chicken, ribs, steaks and burgers. Create your own homemade sauces and tasty rubs.~~ What inspired you to launch your own website? I'm crazy about barbecuing and wanted to share my experiences and ideas. Allow people to share recipes and their barbecue tips with others. My father designed and portable barbecue and wanted me to sell it for him online. When did you launch your first website, and what was it? This is my first website and I launched it with my uncle earlier this year. How did you decide on a name for your website? While I was building it, first we named it after the barbecue we were going to sell. After all the information we added it was clear that everything BBQ should be the name. What makes your website different from other, similar offerings? We focus more on high value content which our readers will benefit from. The site has all the information you need on grilling. It also gives the chance for readers to contribute and add their own ideas and recipes. What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?) Ideally start selling my dads barbecue off the site. Hopefully we will do that soon. I wont ever sell the site, I never did it to sell. How does your investment of time and money balance against your success? We haven't spent that much money on the site. It has mostly been man hours, only recently have we been seeing success for the time we have put in. If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site? I honestly don't think I would change much. I am very happy with what the site looks like. I wouldn't want to add any flash or Dreamweaver designs. I would probably put the money into hiring a team to build more content and a lot more money in promoting the website. If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand? I don't think my site will get too big for me to handle. If it did become too much to handle, I will hire assistants to help with replying to emails and my ezine. What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with? Luckily we haven't experienced any unexpected costs with building and promoting our site. There have been numerous headaches, mainly with building the site. When I first started I found it look and tiresome to upload pictures. I am not a writer, so I did battle with spelling and grammar. We have hired someone to correct all my spelling and grammar mistakes. What has been your biggest challenge? Learning to build the site and HTML coding. It took a while to get the hang of it but once you know how to do it, it becomes easier. The challenge now is to promote the site and build traffic. What method has been most successful for promoting your website? At the moment social medias like Facebook, Stumble Upon and Twitter have done well for us. We are starting to use directories and writing articles. How has running your website differed from your expectations? Building the site and writing the content was as I expected. My expectations for getting listed on google and Yahoo were different. I didn't realise it would take so long and be as difficult as it has been. Getting listed for certain keywords has been harder than original expected. How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity? My site has been up for 5 months now. I haven't really planned on when I will take it off. I guess it will depend on both, if I am making an income why would I take it off. If the site is popular why would I take it off. I guess ill take it off when I don't enjoy doing it anymore. What made you choose your website design and color scheme? I wanted the color to stand out from other sites. I chose a red color scheme to suit what my site is about - barbecuing. The site design was mainly chosen so it would be easy to navigate, I didn't want my readers to find my site hard to use.
