Please give us a short summary of your website?
A free classified ad service for residents of Mobile, Alabama. Free classified ads for cars, jobs, real estate, and everything else. Find what you are looking for or create your own ad for free!
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I created this site for the people of mobile Alabama. Now doys, classifieds are too expensive, ebay and other website have too many international sellers - I wanted a site where Mobilians could do business with other Mobilians for free.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website that I launched was http://www.groonesworld.com and it was a little site where I listed 3d models that I created, as well as some vb shareware, and php scripts that I wrote.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I figured everyone has junk in their backyards, and one mans junk is another mans treasure.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It probably isn't any different, but it's free of charge, and it has an area where people can give away stuff they dont want. I have a ton of stuff that I simply want to give away for free and that hopefully someone else can use if they want.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I'm not sure. I just love programming and helping people.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I've I put a price of tangible cash on it, I would be broke. I haven't had any success, and I don't think I'm really looking for success. I'm just having fun and hope other people can enjoy it.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I wouldn't I don't think. I would probably quit my full time job and focus on what I love, and that is programming.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
haha, that has to happen first. I'm pretty sure i could.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None. I do it because I love it.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to keep up with the forward motion of web technologies. Since I don't program and do web design for a living, I find it hard finding the time to keep up.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I haven't had much success in promotion. I don't really ever know where to begin.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It hasn't.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I just opened it, and will continue to run it until it isn't needed.
What if people don't come to your site?
That's the chance I take. I don't know how to promote so I don't have high expectations. Wish I did.
