All About Clowns Interview Name of your website? All About Clowns Your name? Kevin "Sneakers McSilly" Andrews Your Location (city, etc) Newburgh Please give us a short summary of your website? Our website is dedicated to the art of clowning. ~~ What inspired you to launch your own website? While conducting research for a book we were working on, "Clown Skits and More", we realized that there was not one site on the web that contained a complete resource for the art of clowning. We spent weeks pulling information from everywhere. It was at this time we had the idea of creating one site that was a complete resource dedicated to the art of clowning. When did you launch your first website, and what was it? In April 2009 we launched our first website. How did you decide on a name for your website? The name speaks for itself. We wanted a name that is easily remembered, recognized and completely descriptive of what our site represents. AllAboutClowns captures that perfectly. What makes your website different from other, similar offerings? Our site is easily navigated, well laid out and comprehensive. We have a world wide directory for clown alleys, (clubs or organizations), We also have a worldwide directory for events. We have several places for users to add their favorite clowns or performers and are designing it so our users will contribute to our site allowing it have the information they would like to see. We are currently designing an area withing our site so if you are a clown related performer and you don't have a personal website we will dedicate an area so you can have a page within our site. Your web address would be unique to your stage name and you can have all of your pictures and contact information complete with graphics to make it pleasing to your customers. Another project we are working on is an on-line clown school with individual modules you can download and this will help new clowns, (Joeys), that are not in an area where schools are readily available, hone their skills. What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?) Our goal is to reach build out of our site within the year and then build another website that would compliment this one. How does your investment of time and money balance against your success? This is a labor of love. Our success is measured by the amount of compliments we receive from our guests and the increase of traffic every month. If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site? We add two to four pages a week on our site. We are very purposeful and deliberate with how we are growing our site. If we had an unlimited budget we would work on our site full time instead of after work every evening. If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand? Yes we would. We would stop working our day jobs and play at our passion. AllAboutClowns.com What has been your biggest challenge? The biggest challenge we have had to face is the learning curve to understand all that goes into creating a good website that is pleasing to visitors and gives them the information they are looking for. A little more than a year ago we had zero idea of how to create a website, at best I was a novice e-mail checker. What method has been most successful for promoting your website? Creating lots of good quality content that fulfills our guests needs. How has running your website differed from your expectations? Time. This is not something we can throw up and sit back and watch. With users feedback and ideas flowing in everyday on how to improve our site, this takes an enormous amount of time. How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity? We have no intentions of ever shutting down or selling our site. We enjoy a steady increase of traffic every month. I believe by the time we reach complete build out of our site we will be one of the most visited sites related to the art of clowning in the world. What we are doing is unique to the art of clowning and we want/strongly encourage our guests to submit their own stories and favorite memories of famous or even not so famous performers and we will add this to our site. A motto of ours is we are a site for, by, and about clowns. We already have a few and I envision having hundreds of stories and submissions from our guests become a part of AllAboutClowns. Replace this with a question of your own My wife Dee Dee "Abby Normal" and myself Kevin "Sneakers McSilly" are very grateful and humbled to be a part of the industry that has a main focus of bringing joy to others, most of the time remaining anonymous and merely because a life lived for others is truly a life worth living.
