graspingthoughts Interview

By Interviewer at 01/31/10 02:52

Name of your website?

graspingthoughts

Your name?

G.Thomas

Your Location (city, etc)

Owen Sound

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This site is primarily about how people perceive and practice their lifestyle choices. The writing and links on this site are directed at issues of self betterment as individuals and as a society of human beings. The efforts of anything on this site is to help others embrace their thoughts, beliefs and practices.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

My inspiration comes from my own motivation to help enlighten people and bring them closer to actualizing their reality in a way they find more acceptable to them.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launched graspingthoughts.com in April 2009

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I searched for a name that related to my theme; How people think about the way they live and what beliefs motivate them in their activities.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

My website is different from most esoteric sites in that it does not subscribe to any one practice or belief system or religion but rather encompasses with an open mind any active methods people use to enhance their desired lifestyle. The links and references on my site try to be helpful and respectful of varying issues that people may have.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My eventual goal is to have larger active readership and enhance the scope of the Website to include a larger range of self betterment issues and incorporate more input from outside sources. I wish to keep it for income that will allow for the preceding goals to be met more realistically. As I wish this to be my sole business activity in the future I want it to succeed financially and mostly usefully.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Right now my investment ratio is more of my own personal time attributed to developing this website and my monetary needs are being met elsewhere. I would like and work toward being able to monetize my Website but not lose integrity to the sites thematic mandate.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would be able to outsource specific topic research and form sub-sites related to specific issues and developments in our world.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes. I would incorporate help with maintaining contact to the readers and I would outsource issues that require more research. I would find more expert affiliates to related issues. I may have to find a better more capable Host if the current one is not capable of keeping up.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Problems with my ISP --which I had resolved as quick as possible. Learning curb for myself regarding interacting with the Web. Monetary costs relating to the functioning of my computer and online services. Finding and learning how to balance my time with applications, and Website Promotion, so that I can find time to attribute to my own WRITING. Research on issues---but this to me is not a headache; I enjoy research. I currently have plans to launch another website and domain but currently do not have the money or time--just the ideas.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting readership as my site is fairly new and I am just learning ways to increase my readership as I type. Also understanding programming language.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Circulating Articles and article excerpts especially work well. Also putting relevant comments on other sites. -with links of course. Also not too modest to say I get very good reviews of my content.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

To make progress takes a lot of time and effort. In example; what I would presume to take about 30 minutes to accomplish with the site and web ends up usually to take about an hour and a half.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

This site is only 5 months young. My site will evolve in such a way that traffic and income will eventually marry with the thematic goals. There may well be a metamorphosis that will make this happen, but it will happen and this website will not die.

What kind of readership will you serve?

This website will serve to relate information that is primarily directed at self improvement and healthy attitudes. It will try to incorporate any outside services or networks that have beneficial information to offer.

What is your website address?
