Greenhorn Horse Facts Interview Name of your website?Greenhorn Horse Facts Your name? Melinda Westrope Please give us a short summary of your website? Horse facts and information on all things related to horses and their care. We try and cover every aspect of owning and caring for a horse.~~ What inspired you to launch your own website? I love horses, and want to educate people on the responsibilities of owning a horse. Some people buy a horse thinking that it we be like owning a dog or cat, but that simply isn't the case. That is why we have so many un-wanted horses today. People don't realize, that owning a horse is a huge responsibility. When did you launch your first website, and what was it? This is my first website. How did you decide on a name for your website? I decided on Greenhorn Horse Facts because it is geared toward first time horse owners. A greenhorn, by definition, is someone who is a beginner. What makes your website different from other, similar offerings? I try and cover all aspect of owning and caring for a horse. It is a totally interactive website. Visitors can contribute their own stories or ask questions. I try to supply answers to their questions. There is nothing worse than going to a website looking for answers to a specific question and coming away from it with more questions. What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?) I want to keep my website. My ultimate goal is to educate people on horses and how important horses are to our history. I also want to get the message out about abused, neglected and slaughtered animals. What has been your biggest challenge? My biggest challenge is that I can't get the information out fast enough. I want it all to be out there now! Of course, that's not possible. So I just keep adding more content and more features. I know that it will just take time and I will eventually have it all there. How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity? My website has been up for almost 2 years now. I plan to keep it going for as long as possible. What is the most important message that you would like to send with your website? The most important message that I would like to send is that horses are not disposable. People go out and buy horses just because their kid wants one. They don't have a clue what horse ownership entails. They keep the horse for about 6 months and suddenly decide that they can no longer take care of it. Then that horse ends up being neglected, abused, at auction or worse yet, a slaughter house. There are thousands of horses, every year that face a brutal and tortuous end to their lives. I would like nothing better than to see this end! What is your website address? Greenhorn Horse Facts |
