If the Fed decides to try to cut deficit spending while the consumers are still paying down their debt then the entire economy, not just real estate will go downhill really quickly. What the Fed should do is continue spending until the middle class has paid down a significant portion of it's debt. This means incurring more debt on the federal level but to me there isn't a choice. If the government loses the main source of it's revenue (the taxpayers) then the government will default on it's current debt levels and then everything will really get mucked up.
