When successful, I would get a commision. I then thought about creating a website to enable me reach a greater audience. I then decided to use it for classified ads in Uganda. I will continue doing my work and earn commissions. At the same time, I will earn money from advertisers since my website is likely to receive a lot of traffic. When did you launch your first website, and what was it? I lauched my first website about 3 years ago. It was called www.ourug.com. I wanted it to be a business directory. But I never succeeded at that one. However, I expect to succeed at this one. How did you decide on a name for your website? This one was no easy task. All the good names were already taken. It took me two weeks of consulting friends. Finally I decided on KwataDeal.com, meaning get a deal. Kwata is a word in Luganda for Get. What makes your website different from other, similar offerings? My website is designed with the Ugandan business man and dealer in mind. It is designed in such a way that its pages load faster. Actually, am not aware of a website that is offering free classified ads, free auctioning and free linking of the buyer to seller directly. What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?) I hope to keep my website. It should be able to bring me some very good income. How does your investment of time and money balance against your success? It balances very well. Considering the amount of time and money I have put in, am so far impressed with the success I have achieved. If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site? Well, I forgot to tell you from the very beginnig that am a final year medical student. Am in the College of Health Sciences, Makerere Universtiy. This means am not the best in the field of web development. With a bigger budget, I would higher more qualified people to help me out. I would also pay for a better hosting package for my website. If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand? Of course, I would. Am looking at about five million hits a month. What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with? Nothing. Afterall, am not new at this. What has been your biggest challenge? Paying my internet bills on time. What method has been most successful for promoting your website? I really cant point to a particular method because my website is still in its infancy stage. How has running your website differed from your expectations? It has not in any way differed from my expectations. How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity? I have already run this website for three months. I have strong faith that it is going to grow steadily. What message do you have for Ugandans? Fellow Ugandans, selling online effectively has been a challenge for most of us. That should not be a problem anymore. Am offering you this wonderful solution in the form of a website www.KwataDeal.com. Its Uganda's free classified ads website. What is your website address?
